Fractional CTO

A senior tech partner,
without the full-time burn rate.

Most startups don't fail for lack of code. They fail on the decisions around it, what to build, what to buy, who to hire, and when to say no. That's the job I do: embedded technical leadership for founders ready to move from idea to scaled execution.

Who it's for

You don't need more hands. You need the right calls.

Founders without a senior technical counterpart

You're making architecture, hiring, and vendor calls alone, and the cost of guessing wrong is climbing.

Seed to Series B, scaling past your architecture

What got you to traction won't get you to scale. You need someone who's crossed that gap before.

Healthtech & regulated industries

HIPAA, EHR integrations, security due diligence. Deep domain reps where the rules are not optional.

Teams betting on AI, unsure what's real

You want the upside without torching budget on demos that look good and never ship.

What I do

Where a fractional CTO earns its keep.

Startup acceleration & product strategy

Zero-to-one through product-market-fit. Architecture, roadmap, hiring, vendor decisions, and the board narrative behind them.

Healthtech & regulated platforms

EHR integrations, HIPAA workflows, and the security posture that survives an acquirer's due diligence.

Responsible AI strategy & adoption

Apply AI where it earns its keep. Skip the pilots that demo well and die in production.

Sustainable, scalable engineering

Platforms that scale without trashing your runway, your team, or the planet.

Fractional leadership for your team

I level up the engineers you have, code reviews, mentoring, and process, so the gains outlast me.

How engagements work

Embedded, hands-on, and built to hand off.

01

Diagnostic

We start with a focused look at your stack, team, and roadmap. You walk away with a clear read on risks and priorities, whether or not we work together.

02

Embed

I plug into your leadership team as your technical counterpart: architecture, hiring, vendor calls, and the board-level tech story.

03

Hands-on when it helps

I'm not above the work. When shipping something myself unblocks the team, I ship it.

04

Hand-off

The goal is to make myself unnecessary, a stronger team, cleaner architecture, and decisions you can defend without me.

Healthtech · Acquired

From scrappy platform to acquisition

As fractional CTO for an at-home health-testing platform, I migrated the product to a modern stack, stood up real engineering process, and led the security and due-diligence work that made the company acquirable.

Acquired by Recuro Health in 2021.

Healthcare AI · Commercialization

A broad vision, made market-ready

A clinical-decision-support startup (mental health in primary care and OB/GYN) had a big mission but no near-term story buyers could act on. I sharpened the positioning, the ROI narrative, and a concrete path to pilots.

A focused use case and a commercialization story stakeholders could finally rally behind.

He knew how to work with healthcare clients and their corporate constraints, and how to turn our mission into something the market could actually buy.

Questions

The things founders ask first.

What exactly is a fractional CTO?

Senior technical leadership on a part-time or project basis. You get the judgment of a CTO who's done it before, without a full-time salary, equity grant, or a long hiring search.

Will you actually write code, or just advise?

Both. I'm strategic when that's what the moment needs, and hands-on when it isn't, architecture, vendor calls, and shipping when shipping is what unblocks the team.

What stage and type of company is this for?

Mostly seed to Series B, often in healthtech, AI, and SaaS. If you have a product but no senior technical counterpart, that's the sweet spot.

How is this different from a dev agency?

An agency sells you build hours. I'm on your side of the table, helping you decide what to build, who to hire, and what to say no to.

Do you work remotely?

Yes. I'm based in the Charlotte, NC area and engagements are remote-first, with on-site time when it earns its place.

Let's figure out your next three decisions.

Tell me where you are and where you're headed. If I'm not the right fit, I'll say so, and point you somewhere better.
